Hostelworld: Hostel Travel App App Reviews

One of the slowest apps Ive ever used. Frequently hangs for 3-6 seconds. Often seems to forget my information to fill for the booking, and if a hostel becomes unavailable while booking all you get is the useless message "something went wrong". Crappy user experience and poor attention to detail. Only use it b/c it has properties that Booking.com doesnt. If I could Id use Booking.com every time over this.

Good app, updates when booking are no longer available or when new info has arrived. Pictures are given of each place along with ratings, reviews, and info of each place. Another helpful tool is it lists what each place offers in terms of services and utilities. The one item which could improve the app would be further filtering search results. Once you enter the info to start the search it would be helpful to filter the given results to shared rooms versus private rooms so you dont have to click into each one and check if they have private versus shared rooms.

I always use Hostelworld to book my hostels; comprehensive listings, easy to navigate, competitive prices compared to other sites. I love the app for consolidating my bookings in an easy to read manner. One feature Id like to see is the ability to view the address of the hostel in the local language. Will add 1 more star if/when this feature is added!!

This app is wonderful and makes finding and booking hostels a breeze. I told a friend about it and he uses it and was impressed by it as well.

Why someone thought it was a good idea to remove the ratings from the map view is beyond me. It used to be easy to find the right balance of rating/price. Now on the map view I have to click each accommodation individually to see the ratings. Was much better before the recent update.

Amazing service, lots of user engagement - aka recent and relevant reviews from other travelers who have stayed at the hostels - along with great search and filters, and the app is so easy to use and confirm bookings. Takes me just a few minutes to book my stays. Well done, Hostelworld!

This service is about the worst garbage Ive ever experienced when booking a hostel. They try and scam you for insurance booking fees and then take an entire deposit instead of just a booking fee. Use AirBnB or another hostel site. Much better

While the app is great for finding a hostel, there is no way to see your current bookings while not connected to the internet. Since many people thy are using the app are traveling away from their home country they typically do not have internet connectivity while between wifi hotspots. This forces users to remember the name/address of their booking so that they can tell ask a local or taxi driver for directions when they arrive in a new town. My memory is shot especially after bumping around for +10 hours on a bus - the last thing I want to do is dig through my email in the back seat of a taxi cab and hope to find the address of my booking. Hopefully a future release can include offline access to reservations. Cheers and happy traveling

I would recommend this app. Easy to see all services offered by the hostel and allows bookings to be added to your Apple wallet

Great concept but poor execution. Keeps asking me repeatedly to sign in even though Im already signed in. Every time I click on anything within the app, I have to sign in again. Takes awhile to load the bookings. Was trying to access my Future Bookings but asked me to sign in 2-3 times and after about a minute, it finally loaded. Doubt that its the Internet connection as Im in NYC at the moment using Verizon Fios.

After a few bad hostel experiences, I use hostel world for every booking now and it has been great. The app lacks the ability to filter searches like the website does, leaving the user to flip back and forth between hostels from the list of results. The app also lacks offline functionality. I can still grab addresses from my email. Having addresses, phone numbers, and airport/bus station directions would be very convenient for international travelers that dont yet have SIM cards.

They claim you are putting a "deposit" on the hostel but youre actually paying a service fee to hostel world when booking through the app. Search with it but book direct with the hostels website. Scammy.

Looks great and works well I was confused when it asked for my password for my account because it looked like it was asking for my Apple ID

When I tried to make reservation, it didnt work correctly. But, they witdraw my deposit 3 times for one reservation!! After asking customer service, they refunded the deposit for only 2 time not 3 times. They really didnt understand what was happened. Thank you for waisting my money and time.

Every time I go to a new screen, it tells me about location services being off. I DO NOT WANT TO USE location services.

This app is really good at finding hostels I just wish it worked better under low bandwidth. Most of the time it just is frozen without any loading indicators after you tap something. Even on hostel wifi. Even with no wifi!

Super user-friendly and extremely helpful in finding great places to stay. Love the map feature!

Hostel world provides easy accessible knowledge as to nearby hostels or destinations you intend to stay . It gives a good breakdown of pricing as well as location . It has helped me many times during my travels of Europe and the US !
